How to Clean the Rusty Gate

Instead of replacing a rusty metal gate, all you have to do is repaint it so it looks good again. Follow these easy steps to make your gate look new.

For a metal gate you first want to get the rust off as much as possible. Choose from either steel wool, a wire brush or sand blasting to remove the rust. You can also chose to buy a rust stripper from the store and use according to the directions.
You should wear heavy working gloves when using any chemicals and clothing you do not mind getting dirty.
Wash the entire gate with soapy water and scrub brush. Allow the gate to fully dry. Do not wait more then 24 hours to prime. Bare metal tends to rust quickly!
Chose either a spray on or a paint on primer that is intended for outdoor use on metal of course. Choose one that helps fight rust.
Allow the primer to completely dry and then paint.
